Background
The Minnesota Hoarding Project (MHP) was established in late 2009, by Jennifer Sampson, a marriage and family therapist and doctoral student in the Family Social Science Department at the University of Minnesota, to study compulsive hoarding behavior and its influences on the family. In 2010, Jennifer joined forces with Janet Yeats, a marriage and family therapist and doctoral student specializing in grief and loss, to develop what the organization that is now known as The Hoarding Project.
In the THP’s most recent project, Jennifer and Janet worked to develop an educational-support group for family members of persons who hoard in order to help them learn about compulsive hoarding and manage feelings of frustration, grief, and loss associated with the hoarding behavior in the family.
